We've been collecting bits and bobs for the trip over the past few months; sleeping bags, panniers, tent, cooking gear, sleeping mats, the list goes on. But nothing has really got us as excited, and solidified this trip as an actual plan, rather than a far away fleeting notion, than picking up my new baby! My brand spanking new, hand made, Surly Long Haul Trucker.
We ordered the bikes from Hollingsworth in Templeogue, Dublin. They are one of the only dealers of Surlys in the country and the lads that work there are dead sound and they really know their stuff. I ordered the Smoggy Pearl colour and Ciarán went for Blacktacular, the manlier of the two we decided! Lucky for me though, there seem to be more pearls available at the moment so mine arrived first!
We headed up to Dublin on Saturday morning and after a quick change of handlebars (we went for Butterfly bars rather than the standard ones for added comfort), and a switch of the saddle to our soon-to-be-broken-in Brooks', we officially had one half of our transport sorted for our tour! Happy days! Now we just need to wait until October for Ciarán's to arrive ...
