I was delighted to have attended the Why Not? Adventure Film Festival in Galway last Saturday. It was my first time attending an adventure film festival and amazed at what was on offer. The day began with a selection of Irish adventurers speaking about some of the amazing adventures they had been on or planning on doing. As I am of course obsessed with all things cycling I was really looking forward to hearing Leon McCarron and Maghnus Collins. They did not disappoint.
During the many intervals I got to talking to a few of the other people at the festival. One man beside us told us of his motorbike trip through North America and up into Canada where he spend a few months traveling helping to repair boats and being rescued when their boat died, amongst other things. Very interesting guy, who I only found out afterwards was the person that runs the Inside Cork facebook page. I was pulled aside at one point by the local film society who were doing short interviews with some of the people who attended the festival. I was asked a few questions on why I was there, any good adventure stories and if I planned on doing any big adventures. So hopefully I will be able to grab a copy of it to post here.
After the speakers we were treated the the screening of 11 new adventure movies, 10 of which Irish premiers . There was a selection covering a wide range of different forms adventure, from kayaking, canyoning, cycling and even surfing.
All in all it was a fantastic night and I cant wait till I am back there again. Hopefully in 2016 after my cycle trip.
